Vrtlarenje je izvrsna aktivnost za svakoga jer donosi brojne fizičke, mentalne i socijalne koristi. Fizički rad u vrtu poboljšava tjelesnu kondiciju, jača mišiće i izdržljivost, a istovremeno omogućuje opuštanje na svježem zraku. Rad s biljkama smanjuje stres, poboljšava raspoloženje i povećava osjećaj povezanosti s prirodom. Također, vrtlarenje potiče kreativnost, strpljenje i osjećaj zadovoljstva pri uzgoju vlastite hrane. Osim toga, to je aktivnost koja je pogodna za sve uzraste i koju lako možemo dijeliti s obitelji ili prijateljima, čime jačamo međusobne odnose. Na vrtu možemo raditi mnoge aktivnosti koje donose radost, opuštanje i korisne rezultate. Možemo saditi i sijati povrće, voće, začinsko bilje ili ukrasne biljke te ih njegovati zalijevanjem, gnojenjem i obrezivanjem. Također se možemo posvetiti uređivanju cvjetnih gredica, postavljanju ukrasnih elemenata ili stvaranju kutaka za opuštanje. Na vrtu možemo kompostirati otpad, graditi povišene gredice ili održavati travnjak. Osim toga, vrt je prostor za opuštanje, piknike, promatranje prirode, pa čak i stvaranje staništa za ptice, pčele i druge korisne životinje. Vrt nudi beskrajne mogućnosti za kreativnost, rad i uživanje u prirodi.
